Consulting arborists providing independent and objective view points pertaining to the health, safety and preservation of trees.

Consulting arborists dedicated to providing clients with a knowledgeable opinion

Treefoil has International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certified, tree risk assessment qualified (TRAQ), Connecticut and Rhode Island state licensed and registered consulting arborists available.

The product we "sell" is an opinion delivered in a written format such as an arborist report. Our viewpoints are developed from a scientific perspective that is formed from years of in-depth experience and continuing education in the field of arboriculture.

It is best to meet with a consulting arborist prior to construction, removals, or planting. We encourage, and often facilitate communication with neighbors, municipalities and energy providers to proactively address arboricultural regulatory issues supported by our arborist reports.

Clients include:

  • Homeowners

  • Municipalities

  • Corporate and University Campuses

  • Civil Engineers

  • Landscape Architects

  • Public Agencies

arborist reports

Treefoil is skilled at various report writing assignments as a result of training and experience. Our arborists follows an industry recognized format for delivering high quality reports that are useful for tree inventories and management planning, legal and insurance issues, municipal code use, risk assessment and the general permitting process requiring arborist reports.

TREE REMOVAL PERMITS

Many municipalities require a permit before a tree can be removed. The tree usually needs to be assessed by an ISA tree risk assessment qualified (TRAQ) arborist. Tree species, size, condition, degree of risk and historical value are often required to be documented.

PRESERVATION,

Construction planning,

and evaluationS OF TREES

Tree preservation in a construction setting is best established and planned well in advance. Regulations found in municipal codes often require a consulting arborist report as to the condition and viability of trees within a conservation zone and methods for tree protection. Treefoil is properly credentialed and capable of performing these services.

SMALLER STREET TREES ARE MORE RESILIENT TO CONSTRUCTION DAMAGE WHILE LARGER TREES SUCH AS THIS LIRIODENDRON TULIPIFERA ARE MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO CONSTRUCTION STRESS (HERE AIR EXCAVATION AND A MACHINE TO LOCATE LARGER ROOTS FOR PRESERVATION)

tree inventories

Tree inventories are a critical step in providing data that can quantify species count, species diversity, condition, location, tree risk, and legacy or heritage trees. Monetary values of economic and environmental contributions such as carbon sequestration and storage, storm water capture estimates, energy benefits and property value enhancement can be established for the urban canopy in municipalities and corporate or university campuses.

Tree planting species and location can be identified for gaps in the tree canopy addressing canopy inequity concerns. Often, areas of impermeable surfaces like sidewalks can be reduced or removed and replaced by street tree planting beds to increase permeability and reduce storm water runoff while enhancing the community experience.

Inventory data gives canopy managers relevant data for maintenance strategies such as pruning cycles and removals in conjunction with replacement tree planting efforts .

tree appraisal

Appraisals are needed in a variety of situations: wrongful trespass and loss, insurance loss/damage and insurance coverage. There are various methods we use in appraisals as established by the Council of Tree and Landscape Appraisers.

CLIMATE CHANGE

Pressure from climate change has created greater opportunity for intensity of storms, drought conditions, interior and coastal flooding, temperature extremes, invasive plant and insects, and more.

The tree population has been broadly impacted by these evolving conditions. Tree species that have previously thrived are in decline, where other species can migrate into these areas with assistance (assisted migration).

At Treefoil, we continuously educate ourselves to keep up with the latest research and incorporate this into our products.

TreE RISK assessmenT AND ADVANCED TREE RISK ASSESSMENT with TOMOGRAPHY AND GROUND PENETRATING RADAR

Trees are living, growing plants that share the same space with humans and their property. It makes sense to monitor the condition of the large, tall and heavy components and associated root systems as best as is possible as time and conditions can adversely impact them. There are varying degrees of assessment options we follow for clients as outlined by the International Society of Arboriculture.

tree failure and investigation

Tree failure will occur with all trees eventually. Treefoil is capable of evaluating the often multiple conditions that lead to failure. Weather, pesticides, chemicals, drought, insect and pest damage, improper planting methods, soil conditions and mechanical damage (construction) can degrade the health of a tree over the course of years or days. We consider the relevant possibilities to determine a cause.

There is little in the architecture of a city that
is more beautifully designed than a tree.
